General FAQs

I just signed up for MongoDB University but I have not received any acknowledgement that I enrolled.

You should have received an activation email when you enrolled. If you have seen the email, it may be because:

  • There was a typo in your email address.
  • The activation email was caught by your spam filter. If so, please check your spam folder.
  • You may be using an older browser. We recommend downloading the current version of Firefox or Chrome.
  • JavaScript is disabled in your browser. If so, please make sure it is enabled.

Try recreating the account if the above suggestions do not work. Don’t worry about the original account you signed up for since it won’t get activated unless you clicked through to the activation link in the email.

How will I know that a course I signed up for has started?

The start date for each course is listed on its course page.

Online Courses

What is the cost of the class?

Online education courses are free.

What do I need to take this class?

You will need access to a computer and YouTube. A recent Windows, Mac OS or Linux based machine will work fine.

What do I receive for taking this course?

Upon passing completion of this online course, you will get a certificate of completion from MongoDB, Inc. which acknowledges that you completed a MongoDB online course. Please note that this certificate of completion does not mean you are automatically certified in MongoDB. To get professionally certified in MongoDB, take one of our certification exams.

Do I need to be available during a certain hour of the day to watch the course?

No, the course is self-paced with weekly deadlines. The course will be broken down into short video segments with periodic assessments, weekly assignments and a final exam.

How does grading work?

You will receive a final grade but the grade won't be reflected on your certificate of completion. To receive a certificate of completion, you will need to achieve 65% on graded material.

The course consists of three different types of assessments:

  1. Quizzes which don't count toward your grade. Quizzes are intended to help you check your own understanding.
  2. Weekly assignments which make up one half of your grade and are due on Tuesdays. We release new video lectures and a new assignment each week. Unfortunately, due to the large number of students and in the interest of fairness, late assignments cannot be accepted.
  3. The final exam/project makes the other one half of your grade.

Will I be able to get help?

There are many resources to help you learn the materials. We provide online forums where students can help each other and typically this venue offers the fastest responses. In addition, the instructors, teaching assistants and other MongoDB employees monitor the forums and try to help.
